Frequently Asked Questions (By Topic)

How often are therapy sessions?

Sessions are weekly, which creates the stable foundation for therapy to be helpful.

How long does therapy take?

It's different for everyone. Some people benefit from an ongoing relationship with a therapist, others do well with short-term treatment. While this may sound vague, it's really the most accurate answer. The guiding principle for how long therapy needs to be is whether you are feeling that your needs are met and your life has changed for the better.

Do you offer couple’s therapy?

Couple’s therapy is not an area of expertise for me. I’d be happy to provide a referral to a colleague with this specialty if that would be helpful.

How many sessions will I need?

For short-term hypnotherapy for a specific problem (insomnia, TMJ/bruxism, public speaking, etc.), you should expect to attend between 2-4 sessions. Very few issues are resolved in one session, but more than 4 sessions is rarely necessary.

Will I cluck like a chicken?

Definitely not. "Clucking like a chicken" is a feature of stage hypnosis, a form of entertainment for large audiences. It would never happen in a legitimate hypnotherapy session.

How will I know I've been hypnotized?

I'll direct your attention to the physical cues of hypnosis and ask you to indicate when you've felt them.

Are there side effects to hypnosis?

Deep relaxation and a good night's sleep are the most common "side effects" of hypnosis. Occasionally, people feel a little spacy afterwards (similar to massage or acupuncture), which passes in an hour or two.

What if I fall asleep?

It's unlikely, because I monitor your responses and prevent that from happening. However, if you do fall asleep, I'll know. I would just use a louder voice to wake you, then guide you to a lighter depth of hypnosis.

What if I can't be hypnotized?

I haven't yet had a client who was unable to be hypnotized.  The likelihood is extremely high that you'll be able to experience hypnosis at your session.

Do you offer past life regression?

This is not a service that I provide.

How long are sessions and what is the cost?

Sessions are 50 minutes and the fee is $175.

What is the cancellation policy?

A minimum of 48 hours is required for all cancellations. Clients are responsible for the full fee for sessions cancelled with less than 48 hours' notice.

Do you take insurance?

I am not an in-network provider for any insurance companies.  If you have out-of-network benefits, I can give you a receipt to submit to your insurance company for whatever percentage of reimbursement your plan provides.  Flexible spending plans (FSA) or health spending plans (HSA) are another option many clients use to pay for sessions.
